  • Year-on-Year

    On an annual basis, the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up to 0.7 percent in April 2016. Last month, it rose by 0.2 percent while in April 2015, it decreased by 0.8 percent. Higher annual increments were registered in the corresponding indices of cement and reinforcing steel at 0.8 percent and 3.7 percent. Moreover, the PVC pipes index moved up by 0.4 percent after it recorded a 1.0 percent drop last month. Meanwhile, annual gains were slower in the indices of sand and gravel at 3.7 percent; hardware, 0.9 percent; plywood, 1.0 percent; electrical works, 1.7 percent; and plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, 3.5 percent. Negative annual rates were still noted in the indices of lumber at 0.7 percent; G.I. sheet, 2.7 percent; structural steel, 3.8 percent; tileworks, 0.1 percent; painting works, 0.7 percent; and fuels and lubricants, 6.5 percent. Other commodity groups either retained their last month’s rates or had a flat growth (Table 2).

  • Month-on-Month

    Measured from a month ago level, the CMWPI in NCR increased by 0.5 percent in April 2016. The indices for reinforcing steel and PVC pipes moved up at faster rates of 2.2 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively. Slow-paced growths were, however, seen in the indices of cement at 0.3 percent; hardware, 0.1 percent; and fuels and lubricants, 1.6 percent. The indices of sand and gravel and plywood both dropped by 0.2 percent; electrical works, -0.1 percent; and plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, -0.4 percent. The rest of the commodity groups registered a flat growth during the month (Table 3).

    Price mark-ups were noticed in steel bars and PVC pipes. On the contrary, prices of sand, plyboard and urinal were lower during the month.
