The Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) registered an increase of 1.5 percent in September from 0.7 percent in August. This can be attributed to the higher growth rates observed in the following commodity groups: cement (3.0% from 0.3 %); lumber (2.6 % from 1.8 %); wood products, (1.6 % from 0.6 %); metal pipes (0.1 % from -0.1 %); concrete products, (0.4 % from 0.3 %); paints, (0.8 % from 0.7 %); reinforcing steel (2.1 % from 1.7 %); structural steel (2.9 % from -1.3%); G.I. sheets (2.3 % from 0.4 %); interior electrical fixtures and devices (0.6% from 0.5 %); and electrical rough-in materials (0.5 % from 0.2 %). From zero growth, prices of hardware and tileworks went up to 0.9 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively. A price decline was however noted in plywood at -0.2 percent from 0.5 percent. Meanwhile, prices for fuels and lubricants further dropped to -6.2 percent from -0.6 percent. Price hikes in exterior electrical equipment/supplies was still at its last month's growth rate of 0.3 percent while prices for the other commodity groups generally remained stable as they posted zero growth this month.

The annual growth rate of the CMWPI in NCR accelerated to 23.3 percent in September from 22.0 percent in August. Higher annual movements were seen in the prices of cement, lumber, plywood, wood products, hardware, reinforcing steel, structural steel, G.I. sheets, exterior electrical equipment/supplies, interior electrical fixtures and devices, tileworks and electrical rough-in materials. On the other hand, annual price additions were slower in fuels and lubricants, glass and glass products, metal pipes, concrete products and paints. The rest of the commodity groups retained their previous month's annual growth rates while the indexes for blasting materials and machinery and equipment rental continued to record a zero growth during the month.
