• Month-on-Month

  The monthly growth rate of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) decelerated to 1.4 percent in May from 2.1 percent in April. This was mainly due to the -0.5 percent decline in the index of fuels and lubricants from 1.0 percent last month. Moreover, a slower price movement was observed in the index of plumbing fixtures at 0.3 percent in May from 0.6 percent in April; reinforcing steel, 0.9 percent from 2.8 percent; and structural steel, 0.8 percent from 8.4 percent. On the other hand, higher price gains were noted in the indexes of the following commodity groups: cement (2.1% from 0.3%); lumber (3.0% from 1.3%); plywood and hardware (1.4% from 0.5% and 1.0%, respectively); metal pipes (1.3% from 0.4%); PVC pipes (2.1% from 1.7%); G.I. sheets (1.5% from 0.3%) and interior electrical fixtures and devices (0.8% from 0.1%). From zero growth, upward price adjustments were also seen in the indexes of sand, stone and gravel, wood products, glass and glass products, concrete products, paints, and electrical rough-in materials. Price changes in the rest of the commodity groups were generally stable during the period.
  

• Year-on-Year

  On an annual basis, the movement of the CMWPI in NCR accelerated to 4.1 percent in May from 2.1 percent in April as higher annual price increases were posted in the indexes of fifteen commodity groups. However, annual price reductions were correspondingly noticed in the indexes of wood products and paints. Likewise, a slower annual price movement was seen in the index of fuels and lubricants. The annual price increments for the other commodity groups remained at their respective last month's rates while that for blasting materials was still zero.
