  • Month-on-Month

    Compared with July 2005, the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) accelerated by 1.4 percent. In July, the monthly growth was recorded at 0.3 percent. These can be attributed to the increments in the prices of sand, stone and gravel at 9.9 percent from 0.3 percent; lumber, 0.5 percent from 0.4 percent; hardware, 0.7 percent from 0.2 percent; paints, 0.5 percent from 0.4 percent; and structural steel, 0.4 percent from 0.2 percent. Moreover, prices of the following commodity groups went up during the month from zero growth: wood products, 6.1 percent; glass and glass products, 0.6 percent; metal pipes, 1.5 percent; concrete products, 4.3 percent; and plumbing fixtures, 0.5 percent. On the other hand, the increase in the prices of fuels and lubricants slowed to 2.3 percent from 5.1 percent while prices of G.I. sheets decreased to -1.9 percent from 0.5 percent; and interior electrical fixtures and devices and electrical rough-in materials, -0.2 percent from zero growth. Prices for the rest of the commodity groups generally remained stable as they posted a zero growth during the month.
     

  • Year-on-Year

    The annual inflation rate of the CMWPI in NCR went up to 13.1 percent in August from 12.6 percent in July. Higher rates were recorded in the prices of the following commodity groups: sand, stone and gravel, 27.5 percent from 16.1 percent; wood products, 26.3 percent from 19.2 percent; fuels and lubricants, 29.4 percent from 28.3 percent; glass and glass products, 21.9 percent from 21.7 percent; metal pipes, 42.5 percent from 40.4 percent; and concrete products, 10.2 percent from 5.7 percent. Annual add-ons in the prices of cement, lumber, plywood, hardware, PVC pipes, plumbing fixtures, paints, structural steel, G.I. sheets, exterior electrical equipment/supplies, interior electrical fixtures and devices, and electrical rough-in materials were also observed but at slower rates. Inflation rates registered in asphalt, aluminum and other metal products, blasting materials, and machinery and equipment rental were zero. Annual price movements of reinforcing steel, tileworks and UPVC water pipes were at their last month's positive rates.
