    The monthly rate of price movement based on the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up to 2.1 percent in April from 0.2 percent in March. This can be attributed to higher monthly price increment registered in the index of cement at 0.3 percent in April from -0.1 percent in March; asphalt, 1.1 percent from -1.1 percent; reinforcing steel, 2.8 percent from 0.3 percent; and structural steel, 8.4 percent from 0.1 percent. From zero growth, the indexes of the following commodity groups also picked up during the month: lumber (1.3%); hardware (1.0%); metal pipes (0.4%); PVC pipes (1.7%); plumbing fixtures (0.6%); interior electrical fixtures and devices (0.3%); tileworks (1.1%); and electrical rough-in materials (0.2%). However, slower price gains were noted in the indexes of plywood at 0.5 percent from 0.7 percent and fuels and lubricants at 0.8 percent from 2.8 percent. For three consecutive months, the index for G.I. sheets moved at 0.3 percent while price adjustments for the rest of the commodity groups generally remained stable during the month.

    The year-on-year growth rate of the CMWPI in NCR rose to 2.2 percent in April from -0.1 percent in March. Annual price hike was noted in the index of sand, stone and gravel at 1.6 percent from 1.5 percent; cement, 1.2 percent from 1.1 percent; lumber, 0.3 percent from -0.9 percent; plywood, 0.7 percent from -0.4 percent; asphalt, 17.3 percent from -9.3 percent; hardware, 0.1 percent from -0.6 percent; PVC pipes, 2.9 percent from 1.2 percent; plumbing fixtures, 1.8 percent from 1.2 percent; reinforcing steel, 0.6 percent from -3.0 percent; structural steel, 4.4 percent from -4.3 percent; exterior electrical equipment/supplies, 6.3 percent from 6.1 percent; and tileworks, 1.8 percent from 0.7 percent. Meanwhile, slower annual price gains were noted in the indexes of fuels and lubricants, concrete products, interior electrical equipment/supplies and electrical rough-in materials. Annual price declines were also observed in the indexes of metal pipes and paints. The annual price increments for the rest of the commodity groups remained at their respective last month's rates while those for blasting materials and machinery and equipment rental were still zero.
