Annual increment of Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) continues to decelerate

          The annual increase of CMWPI in NCR slowed down further to 1.4 percent in November 2019. Higher annual mark-ups were registered in October 2019 at 2.6 percent and in November 2018, 5.6 percent. Annual decreases were still noted in the indices of reinforcing and structural steel at 0.6 percent; and doors, jambs, and steel casement, 1.3 percent. Compared with their annual rates in October 2019, slower annual gains were registered in the indices of the following commodity groups:

  • Concrete products and cement, 0.9 percent;
  • Hardware, 1.4 percent;
  • Plywood, 1.1 percent;
  • Lumber and G.I. sheet, both at 3.6 percent;
  • Tileworks, 4.0 percent;
  • Electrical works, 3.2 percent; and
  • Plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, 4.8 percent.

Meanwhile, higher annual add-ons were posted in the indices of sand and gravel, and fuels and lubricants at 5.8 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively. The rest of the commodity groups either retained their previous month’s rate or had zero growth during the month (see Table 2).

Wholesale prices of construction materials in NCR generally move upward during the month

          The month-on-month change of CMWPI in NCR inched up by 0.1 percent in November 2019. Its monthly rate in October 2019 was recorded at -0.3 percent. Higher monthly hike was noted in the index of sand and gravel at 0.8 percent. Moreover, the index of reinforcing and structural steel during the period slightly increased by 0.04 percent after recording a decrease of 1.5 percent in the previous month. Similarly, the index of concrete products and cement also increased by 0.04 percent from a zero growth in the previous month. Slower monthly upticks were, however, seen in the indices of electrical works; and fuels and lubricants at 0.1 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively.  In addition, decreases were posted in the indices of the following commodity groups:

  • Hardware and lumber, both at 0.2 percent;
  • Plywood, 0.3 percent;
  • Tileworks, 0.5 percent; and
  • Painting works, 0.1 percent.

The rest of the commodity groups had a zero growth during the month (see Table 3).
