The annual rate of change of Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) moves upward during the month
The annual rate of change of CMWPI in NCR picked up further by 3.2 percent in June 2019. Its annual growth in May 2019 was recorded at 3.0 percent and in June 2018, 4.8 percent. Compared with their annual rates in May 2019, annual mark-ups were higher in the indices of the following commodity groups in June 2019:
- Concrete products and cement, 5.5 percent;
- Hardware, 2.9 percent;
- G.I. sheet, 4.1 percent;
- Tileworks, 1.3 percent;
- Plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, 5.1 percent;
- Painting works, 0.2 percent; and
- PVC pipes, 1.3 percent.
On the other hand, slower annual increases were registered in the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:
- Sand and gravel, 9.6 percent;
- Plywood, 1.8 percent;
- Lumber, 5.2 percent; and
- Electrical works, 5.3 percent.
Moreover, the indices of reinforcing and structural steel registered annual decreases of 0.7 percent; doors, jambs, and steel casement, 0.5 percent; and fuels and lubricants, 0.8 percent. The rest of the commodity groups had a zero growth during the month (see Table 2).
Month-on-month change of CMWPI in NCR remains at 0.3% in June 2019
On a monthly basis, the rate of change of CMWPI in NCR went up by 0.3 percent in June 2019. This was the same rate registered in May 2019. Higher monthly increments were noted in the indices of hardware and electrical works at 1.6 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively. In addition, the sand and gravel index inched up by 0.04 percent from a 0.3 percent drop in the previous month. From a zero growth in May 2019, the indices of the following commodity groups also picked up during the month:
- G.I. sheet, 1.4 percent;
- Tileworks, 0.9 percent;
- Doors, jambs, and steel casement, 0.3 percent; and
- PVC pipes, 0.7 percent.
Slower monthly upticks were, however, seen in the indices of lumber and concrete products and cement, both at 0.3 percent, and plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks at 0.5 percent. Declines were posted in the indices of plywood at 0.4 percent; painting works, 0.01 percent; and fuels and lubricants, 6.2 percent. Other commodity groups had zero growth during the month (see Table 3).
