The year-on-year growth of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) decelerated to 0.4 percent in February 2016. It went up by 0.8 percent last month while it decreased by 0.9 percent in February 2015. The annual adjustments in the indices of cement dropped by 0.2 percent; G.I. sheets, -2.4 percent; structural steel, -3.7 percent; painting works, -0.5 percent, PVC pipes, -0.9 percent; and fuels and lubricants, -7.7 percent. Moreover, slower annual hikes were registered in the following indices: sand and gravel, 2.0 percent; concrete products, 1.8 percent; hardware, 1.0 percent; plywood, 2.1 percent; tileworks, 0.2 percent; doors, jambs, and steel casement, 0.3 percent; electrical works, 2.3 percent; and plumbing fixtures and accessories, 4.7 percent. The rest of the commodity groups posted a zero growth during the month with the reinforcing steel retaining its previous month’s rate of 3.4 percent (Table 2).
The CMWPI in NCR continued to post a zero growth in February 2016. The index of concrete products went up 0.2 percent and tileworks index, 0.3 percent. However, sand and gravel index dropped by 1.2 percent; cement and hardware indices, -0.3 percent; structural steel index, -0.4 percent; and fuels and lubricants index, -0.8 percent. No movement was registered in the rest of the commodity groups (Table 3).
Price increases were noted in selected concrete products and tileworks. On the contrary, prices of gravel, cement, nails, angle and flat bars, and gasoline were lower during the month.
