On an annual basis, the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) further dropped by 0.9 percent in January 2016. While it picked up 1.9 percent during the same month last year, it decreased by 0.4 percent in December 2015. The miscellaneous construction materials index registered an annual decline of 5.8 percent during the month. Moreover, the electrical materials index fell by 1.1 percent; masonry materials index, -3.0 percent; plumbing materials index, -0.6 percent; and tinsmithry materials index, -1.4 percent. The annual increase in painting materials and related compounds index slowed down to 1.0 percent while that for carpentry materials index remained at 0.8 percent (Table 2).

Compared from a month ago level, the CMRPI in NCR went down by 0.5 percent in January 2016. It recorded a 0.5 percent uptick in December 2015. The tinsmithry materials index further moved downward at -0.5 percent. In addition, from their positive growths in December 2015, the electrical materials index contracted by 1.1 percent; masonry materials index, -0.7 percent; painting materials and related compounds index, -0.6 percent; and plumbing materials index, -0.1 percent. The carpentry materials index moved up at a slower pace of 0.1 percent and miscellaneous construction materials index, 0.4 percent (Table 3).
Price cuts were observed in cement, selected electrical wires, common wire and finishing nails, G. I. pipes and corrugated G. I. sheets.
