- Value of Production Index declines in July 2017
Value of Production Index (VaPI) for manufacturing went down by 2.0 percent in July 2017 compared with 7.7 percent growth during the same month of the previous year, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). Seven major sectors showed decreases in VaPI, with three major sectors primarily contributing to the downtrend, namely: chemical products (-54.2%), textiles (-23.6%), and rubber and plastic products (-19.1%). Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.
- Volume of Production Index slips
Volume of Production Index (VoPI) dropped by 1.1 percent in July 2017 compared with a two-digit increment of 12.1 percent in July 2016. Eight out of the 20 major sectors registered annual declines, with two-digit decreases noted in the following major sectors: chemical products (-52.6%), textiles (-20.3%), and rubber and plastic products (-13.9%). Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.
- Value of Net Sales Index plunges
Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI) dropped in July 2017 as it registered a decrease of 9.0 percent from a 3.8 percent during the same month of the previous year. Three major sectors exhibited two-digit decreases in VaNSI led by chemical products (-56.1%) followed by non-metallic mineral products (-23.4%) and footwear and wearing apparel (-22.0%). Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.
- Volume of Net Sales Index decreases
Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI) similarly posted year-on-year contraction of 8.1 percent in July 2017. The contributing factors were the decreases in VoNSI exhibited by three major sectors, with considerable reduction observed in chemical products (-55.1%), footwear and wearing apparel (-22.5%) and non-metallic mineral products (-18.0%) . Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
- Average Capacity Utilization Rate in July 2017 is 83.7 percent with petroleum products posting the highest among industries
Average capacity utilization rate in July 2017 for total manufacturing was recorded at 83.7 percent. Sixty percent or 12 of the 20 major industries operated at 80 percent and above capacity utilization rates. These are:
- petroleum products (88.7%)
- basic metals (88.6%)
- non-metallic mineral products (86.5%)
- machinery except electrical (85.5%)
- electrical machinery (84.7%)
- food manufacturing (84.7%)
- chemical products (83.7%)
- paper and paper products (83.5%)
- rubber and plastic products (83.0%)
- wood and wood products (81.4%)
- printing (80.6%)
- footwear and wearing apparel (80.3%)
The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90% to 100%) was recorded at almost one-fourth of the total number of establishments (24.8%) in July 2017. About 55.3 percent of the total establishments operated at 70 percent to 89 percent capacity while almost one-fifth of the total establishments (19.9%) operated below 70 percent capacity. Refer to Table B and 6.
