Distinguished guests, our valued respondents, fellow government officials, ladies and gentlemen, a pleasant morning to all!

On behalf of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), we are truly grateful to all of you for attending this important event, the Quarterly Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (QSPBI) Respondents’ Forum. It is an honor for us to welcome representatives from our valuable respondents and colleagues in the government. May this be a productive and informative morning for all of us, as we discuss the QSPBI and its importance to the Philippine Systems of National Accounts or PSNA.

I would like to bring to your attention that QSPBI plays an essential part in measuring the Philippine economy. The data gathered from this survey serve as input in the compilation of the national accounts. Part of the national accounts is the Gross Domestic Product or GDP, which is a measure of market value of all the final goods and services produced in a specific time period. The most recent 3rd Quarter 2019 GDP results showed that our economy grew by 6.2 percent. Furthermore, among major economic sectors, Services had the fastest growth of 6.9 percent, followed by Industry with 5.6 percent and lastly, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing with 3.1 percent.

CALABARZON’s growth rate of 7.3 percent in 2018 was the highest recorded growth since 2013. Among major economic sectors, Industry had the fastest growth of 7.9 percent, followed by Services with 7.1 percent and lastly, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing with 0.7 percent.

Information produced from QSPBI have been immensely valuable in the formulation and implementation of economic plans and programs in both government and private sectors.

Summarize data generated from these surveys are being used by government agencies to craft policies that will attract new investments, stimulate demand and effectively implement industry regulations that will revitalize our industries.

I would like to thank our dear respondents for their unceasing cooperation and participation to PSA surveys. Because of you, we are able to produce quality, relevant, and timely statistical data vital in policy-making and necessary for equitable development for the benefit of all Filipinos.

We look forward to today’s discussions and exchanges, as your views and insights will both help improve the surveys and also strengthen our partnerships with our sample establishments. It is only when we work together that we are able to produce outstanding statistics for a globally competitive Philippines.

Good morning and mabuhay!
