1. Annual rate of GWPI at the national level accelerates in November 2019

The year-on-year change of GWPI at the country level picked up by 2.3 percent in November 2019. In the previous month, the annual rate was 2.0 percent and in November 2018, 1.9 percent. (Table A and Table 2)

Higher annual increments were observed in the indices of food at 3.7 percent; beverages and tobacco, 13.3 percent; and machinery and transport equipment, 2.8 percent. In addition, the index of crude materials inedible except fuels rose by 0.7 percent after registering 14.4 percent drop in the previous month. On the other hand, a slower annual gain of 2.0 percent was recorded in the index of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials. The indices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, and chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats continued to register annual decreases of 9.8 percent and 4.0 percent, respectively. The annual rate of miscellaneous manufactured articles index remained at 1.6 percent for four consecutive months now. (Table 2)

2. Annual change of GWPI in Luzon picks up this month

The annual rate of GWPI in Luzon, likewise, accelerated by 2.1 percent in November 2019. Its annual change in October 2019 was posted at 2.0 percent and in November 2018, 1.9 percent. (Table A and Table 2)

Annual rate in crude materials, inedible except fuels index picked up by 1.0 percent from a decline of 15.6 percent in the previous month. Meanwhile, annual increases slowed down in the indices of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials at 2.2 percent, and machinery and transport equipment, 2.9 percent. Annual movements in the indices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials; and chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats were still on the downtrend as their rates dropped by 11.0 percent and 4.3 percent, respectively. The rest of the commodity groups maintained their previous month’s annual rates. (Table 2)

3. Annual rate of GWPI in Visayas moves upward

The annual mark-up of GWPI in Visayas was higher at 3.1 percent in November 2019. Its annual change in the previous month was noted at 2.4 percent and in November 2018, 2.3 percent. (Table A and Table 2)

Annual gains were higher in the indices of food, and beverages and tobacco at 6.2 percent and 16.3 percent, respectively. In addition, from a zero annual growth in the previous month, the machinery and transport equipment index rose by 0.3 percent. On the other hand, annual decreases were still observed in the indices of the following commodity groups:

  • Crude materials, inedible except fuels, 2.5 percent;

  • Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 2.8 percent;

  • Chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 1.3 percent; and

  • Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 0.3 percent.

Meanwhile, miscellaneous manufactured articles index continued to post a zero percent growth. (Table 2)

4. Annual movement of GWPI in Mindanao picks up further this month

The annual change of GWPI in Mindanao rose further by 1.5 percent in November 2019. Its annual growth in October 2019 was recorded at 1.0 percent and in November 2018, 3.3 percent. (Table A and Table 2)

Annual uptick was higher in the index of beverages and tobacco at 7.3 percent. In addition, from annual declines in the previous month, the annual rates in the indices of food went up by 0.5 percent; crude materials, inedible except fuels, 0.7 percent; and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 4.8 percent. Meanwhile, a slower annual increase of 1.0 percent was observed in the index of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials. In addition, the annual change of chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats index decreased further by 1.7 percent. The indices of machinery and transport equipment, and miscellaneous manufactured articles retained their previous month’s annual rates of 2.9 percent and 4.7 percent, respectively. (Table 2)
