The month-on-month change of GRPI in NCR inched up by 0.2 percent in May 2019. This was the same rate recorded in the previous month.

  • The increase in the heavily-weighted food index remained at 0.3 percent in May 2019. Prices of chicken, beef, canned meat, vegetables, milk, and salt went up during the month.

  • Increments in the prices of liquors, wines, softdrinks and cigarettes resulted to a 0.3 percent growth in beverages and tobacco index.

  • The index of crude materials, inedible except fuels rose by 0.2 percent in May 2019 after recording four consecutive months of decreases. This was due to higher prices of sand during the period.

  • The increase in the index of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials was still posted at 0.8 percent in May 2019. Prices of diesel, LPG and kerosene picked up during the month.

  • Prices of paints, selected medicines and some items for personal care were higher in May 2019. Thus, the index of chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats moved up by 0.1 percent.

  • The index of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials inched up by 0.1 percent due to price hikes in selected construction materials during the month.

  • Uptick in miscellaneous manufactured articles index was registered at 0.1 percent in May 2019. Higher prices of some ready-made clothing items and footwear were seen during the month.

  • The machinery and transport equipment index had a zero growth in May 2019. Electrical lamps and selected electrical appliances were priced higher during the month. These were, however, offset by the price decreases in electrical wires.
