  • Beverages and Tobacco (12.1%);

  • Mineral Fuels, Lubricants and Related Materials (24.3%);

  • Chemicals, Including Animal and Vegetable Oils and Fats (1.2%);

  • Machinery and Transport Equipment (1.8%); and

  • Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles (1.3%).

Meanwhile, the annual increments in the indices of food decelerated to 4.4 percent and crude materials, inedible except fuels, 1.3 percent. The annual movement of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials index remained at 2.7 percent (see Table 2).

By Commodity Group, Month-on-Month

The month-on-month increase of GRPI in NCR slowed down to 0.1 percent in July 2018. In the previous month, its rate was posted at 0.4 percent.

  • The heavily-weighted food index declined by 0.2 percent in July 2018. This was due to lower prices of eggs, chicken, fruits, vegetables, cooking oil, butter, brown sugar and coffee.

  • Prices of petroleum products such as gasoline, LPG, kerosene and engine oil were higher during the period. This resulted to a 0.4 percent increment in the index of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials.

  • The index of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials inched up by 0.1 percent. This was lower compared from a 0.3 percent gain posted in June 2018. Upward adjustments in the prices of plywood, paper products, textile yarn fabrics, selected clothing items, coated and engraved metals like spoon and fork, G.I. pipes, common wire nails and school supplies were noted during the period. On the other hand, prices of hinges decreased during the month.

  • Uptick in miscellaneous manufactured articles index slowed down to 0.1 percent in July 2018 from 0.3 percent in the previous month. Higher prices of furniture, ready-made clothing items and selected office and school supplies were tempered by the declines in the prices of selected footwear, sporting goods and printed matter.

  • The index of crude materials, inedible except fuels moved up by 0.4 percent brought about by higher prices in gravel and charcoal.

  • Chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats index rose by 0.2 percent. Prices of paints, medicines, medical goods, bath soap and toilet preparations such as toothpaste and deodorant went up during the month.

  • The index of machinery and transport equipment climbed by 0.3 percent in July 2018 due to higher prices of electrical lamps, wires, switches and selected appliances.

  • Price increases in alcoholic beverages, softdrinks and cigarettes raised the beverages and tobacco index by 0.2 percent during the month.
