The country’s year-on-year inflation for the bottom 30% income households slowed down to 8.2 percent in November 2018. In the previous month, annual inflation was pegged at 9.5 percent, while in November 2017, it was posted at 3.4 percent. Slowdowns in the annual mark-ups were noted in the indices of food, beverages and tobacco (FBT) at 9.3 percent and fuel, light and water (FLW) at 8.1 percent.

On the other hand, compared with their annual increments in October 2018, higher annual rates were registered in the indices of clothing at 3.1 percent; housing and repairs (H&R), 5.4 percent; services, 3.7 percent; and miscellaneous, 2.3 percent (see Tables 3 and 4).

The food index at the national level further eased to 8.3 percent in November 2018. Its annual change was noted at 9.8 percent in the previous month and 3.3 percent in November 2017(see Tables 5 and 7).

Relative to their annual rates in the previous month, annual add-ons in November 2018 were slower in the indices of the following food groups:

  • Rice (9.7%);
  • Corn (3.4%);
  • Fish (11.3%);
  • Fruits and vegetables (10.4%);
  • Meat (6.2%); and
  • Miscellaneous foods (6.0%).

The rest of the food groups registered higher annual hikes during the month (see Table 5).

National Capital Region (NCR)

On an annual basis, prices for this particular group of consumers in NCR continued to move up at a slower pace of 6.2 percent in November 2018. In the previous month, inflation settled to 6.9 percent, while in November 2017, the annual rate was observed at 4.5 percent. The slowdown in the annual increase of the heavily-weighted FBT index at 6.0 percent primarily contributed to the downtrend. Moreover, annual uptick in FLW index further slid to 9.9 percent during the month.

Compared with their previous month’s annual rates, annual gain in clothing index was higher at 1.9 percent; services index, 5.0 percent; and miscellaneous index, 3.0 percent. For four consecutive months now, annual rate of H&R index was recorded at 0.2 percent (see Tables 3 and 4).

The food index in the area posted an annual increase of 5.1 percent during the month. This was lower compared from the 6.0 percent growth in October 2018. Inflation of the food index was posted at 3.4 percent in November 2017 (see Tables 5 and 7).

A double-digit annual decline of 14.0 percent was seen in corn index during the month. Moreover, relative to their annual rates in the previous month, slower annual upticks were noticed in the indices of the following food groups:

  • Rice (0.9%);
  • Dairy products (9.3%);
  • Meat (5.5%); and
  • Miscellaneous foods (6.3%).

Meanwhile, the annual change of fruits and vegetables index went up by 5.3 percent after it recorded a 1.5 percent decrease in the previous month. Other food groups registered higher annual increments during the month (see Table 5).

Areas Outside NCR (AONCR)

Inflation in AONCR for the bottom 30% income households eased to 8.3 percent in November 2018. In the previous month, its annual rate was observed at 9.5 percent, while in November 2017, it was noted at 3.3 percent. The indices of FBT and FLW had slower annual hikes of 9.3 percent and 8.1 percent, respectively. The rest of the commodity groups exhibited higher annual gains during the month (see Tables 3 and 4).

Relative to their annual increases in the previous month, all the regions had slower annual add-ons during the month, except Region IX (Zamboanga Peninsula). The highest annual rate of 13.8 percent remained in MIMAROPA Region, while the lowest of 4.4 percent was still noted in ARMM (see Table 4).

Year-on-year growth of the food index in AONCR decelerated to 8.3 percent in November 2018. The annual rate was posted at 9.8 percent in the previous month, and 3.3 percent in November 2017 (see Tables 5 and 7).

Lower annual increments were recorded in the indices of the following food groups:

  • Rice (9.8%);

  • Fruits and vegetables (10.4%);
  • Meat (6.2%); and
  • Miscellaneous foods (6.0%).
