p align="JUSTIFY"bPopulation increased by 43,808 persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Aklan had a total population of 495,122 persons as of August 1, 2007, which was larger by 9.7 percent compared to the census count of 451,314 persons as of May 1, 2000. These figures translated to an annual population growth rate of 1.29 percent for the period 2000 to 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"The household population of Aklan in 2007 was 493,219 persons, an increase of 9.5 percent from 450,353 persons in 2000. The number of households, increased by 17.0 percent from 87,883 in 2000 to 102,811 in 2007. The average household size in 2007 was 4.8 persons, lower than the average household size of 5.1 persons in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bKalibo remained on top in terms of population size/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the 17 municipalities of Aklan, the municipality of Kalibo, the provincial capital, had the biggest population size in 2007. It contributed 14.1 percent to the total population of the province. It was followed by the municipalities of Ibajay (8.6 percent) and New Washington (8.0 percent). These were also the top three municipalities of the province in terms of population size in 2000. The municipality of Lezo was the least populated (2.6 percent) in both the 2000 and 2007 censuses./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1083f1.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bSex ratio at 103 males per 100 females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"There were more males (250,451 persons) than females (242,768 persons) in the province in 2007. This resulted to a sex ratio of 103 males for every 100 females. A sex ratio of 101 males per 100 females was recorded in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMedian age increased to 22 years/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, the median age of the household population of the province was 22 years, which means that half of the household population were below 22 years old. This was higher compared to the median age of 21 years in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"Children aged 10 to 14 years comprised the largest age group, with 12.0 percent share to the total household population. This was closely followed by age groups 0 to 4 years old (11.6 percent) and 5 to 9 years old (11.6 percent)./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 2" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1083f2.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"Males outnumbered females in age groups 0 to 54 years old while females outnumbered males in age groups 55 years old and over./p p align="JUSTIFY"bNearly six in every ten household population were of voting age/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The size of the voting-age population (18 years old and over) of Aklan in 2007 was 57.9 percent of the household population. In 2000, the voting-age population was 56.9 percent of the household population. The males outnumbered females as they comprised 50.2 percent of the total voting-age population in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bDependents decreased to 71 persons per 100 persons in the working-age population/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"About three fifths (58.5 percent) of the household population belonged to the working-age population (15 to 64 years). Young dependents (under 15 years) comprised 35.2 percent, while old dependents (65 years and over) accounted for 6.3 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratio of Aklan in 2007 was 71 persons per 100 persons in the working-age population. This means that for every 100 persons in the working-age population, there were 71 dependents (60 young dependents and 11 old dependents). In 2000, the overall dependency ratio was 73 persons per 100 persons in the working-age population (63 young dependents and 10 old dependents)./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore never-married males than females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population 10 years old and over, 46.1 percent were never married while 44.0 percent were married. The remaining proportion were either widowed (5.5 percent), divorced/separated (0.7 percent), had common-law/live-in marital arrangement (3.3 percent), or had unknown marital status (0.4 percent). Males outnumbered their female counterparts in the never-married category. The rest of the categories for marital status was dominated by females./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore female academic-degree holders than males/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Approximately 38.0 percent of the household population 5 years old and over had attended or completed elementary education, 31.8 percent had reached or finished high school, 6.8 percent were college undergraduates, and 9.4 percent were academic degree holders./p p align="JUSTIFY"Meanwhile, there were more female academic degree holders (57.5 percent) than males (42.5 percent). Similarly, among those persons with post baccalaureate degrees, there were more females (69.5 percent) than males (30.5 percent)./p p align="JUSTIFY"bTwo out of three persons aged 5 to 24 years attended school/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"More than two thirds (68.6 percent) of the household population 5 to 24 years old had attended school during School Year 2007 to 2008. School attendance was higher among females (70.1 percent of the total females aged 5 to 24 years old) than among males (67.2 percent of the total males aged 5 to 24 years old) during the said school year./p p align="JUSTIFY"bOccupied housing units increased by 18.2 percent/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, there were 102,402 occupied housing units in Aklan. This was 18.2 percent higher than the number of occupied housing units recorded in 2000. A ratio of 100 households per 100 occupied housing units was recorded in 2007, lower than the ratio of 101 households per 100 occupied housing units observed in 2000. Moreover, the number of persons per occupied housing unit was 4.8 persons in 2007, lower than the ratio of 5.2 persons per occupied housing unit in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMost of the occupied housing units used light construction materials for outer walls and roofs/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the 102,402 occupied housing units in Aklan, 46.5 percent had outer walls made of bamboo/sawali/cogon/nipa, while 52.9 percent had roofs made of cogon/nipa/anahaw. Meanwhile, the use of concrete/brick/stone for the outer walls increased from 28.4 percent in 2000 to 35.8 percent in 2007. Similarly, the use of galvanized iron/aluminum as roofs increased from 29.3 percent in 2000 to 40.1 percent in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY" /p p style="text-align: -webkit-left; " /p table border="0" width="100%" tbody tr td colspan="80%" /td td align="CENTER" nowrap="nowrap"font face="Arial" size="-1"(Sgd.) bCARMELITA N.
